Perry Chen, 9-yr-old award-winning film critic & radio talk show host on wsRadio, presented the “Character Design” awards with co-presenter Nicky Jones at the 37th Annie Awards for animation on Feb 6, 2010 at UCLA Royce Hall to over 1500 Who’s Who in animation and entertainment.  William Shatner, the host of Annie Awards, introduced Perry and Nicky on stage.

Perry’s humor, appealing personality, and wonderful presence made him an instant hit with the audience.  Perry loved interviewing directors Pete Docter of Up, John Musker of “The Princess & the Frog,” both his “old friends” from last year, and enjoyed meeting other filmmakers and stars on the red carpet.

Perry was delighted that his best animated film prediction was right on again!  Up and its director Pete Docter won best animation and best director.  Perry told Pete Docter during his interview on the red carpet, “I hope you’ll win so I can give the Annie Award to you!”  Pete Docter and co-director Bob Peterson presented immediately following Perry on stage.

Another one of Perry’s favorite films, 5-starfish-rated Disney’s “The Princess & the Frog” won three Annie Awards: Jen Codi for voice of Charlotte, Eric Goldberg for character animation, James Mansfield for animated effects.

4-starfish-rated Coraline from Laika animation studio won 3 Annies: Shane Prigmore for character design (announced by Perry), Tadahiro Uesugi for production design, and Bruno Coulais for music.  Perry enjoyed meeting Phil Knight, chairman of Laika and Nike, who congratulated Perry on his presentation.

Perry also enjoyed interviewing Antran Manoogian, ASIFA-Hollywood President who invited Perry to attend the 37th Annie Awards.  “This is the first time we are hosting the Annie on a Saturday. We have more attendees and more media coverage this year. I’m so glad to invite you to present awards at Annie this time,” said Manoogian.

Perry and his mom Dr. Zhu Shen, executive producer of wsRadio’s “Perry Previews the Movies,” enjoyed all the festivities at the 37th Annie Awards.  Perry gave it a five starfish rating!
