By Austin Evans, intern
Most 9-year-olds go to the movies to eat popcorn and zone out for a couple hours. Not Perry Chen. At just 9 years of age, Perry, a Torrey Hills [...]

On July 30, 2009 during my 3rd TV appearance on Fox 5 San Diego, I had my very first movie review at the “Drive-in movie theater” with anchor Shally Zomorodi. We sat on a super-cool BMW convertible and reviewed the new Disney “G-Force” which I gave 4 starfish. Great movie with fantastic 3-D, funny dialogs, interesting characters for adults and kids alike. Review also published on We Chinese Aug 14, 2009.

ASK PERRY CHEN what he wants to be when he grows up, and he softly and politely replies, “An explorer, a biologist, a scientist, an artist or a movie critic.”
At 9, Perry is already three of these. But in the community beyond his Torrey Hills front door, Perry, a charming, soft-spoken third-grader, is establishing a reputation as a movie critic. He started publishing his reviews of kids movies on his Web site, www.perryspreviews.com , early this year, and by April, area newspapers were picking them up, and television and radio were exhibiting interest.
“I write my reviews to show everyone they can write their own reviews,” he says. His are straightforward, with splashes of depth (“Friendship is contagious and beyond species”) and cinematic flash (“The princess was agile and ran fast, like a ball of delight with legs!”). He rates the movies with starfish, five starfish meaning the movie was “Perrific.”

Have you ever wondered how an author writes a book? A young writer named Marian Walker is ready to try it out! Soon she finds out, after taking dead wrong advice from her mentor, that her book wasn’t just a story…
The movie is about fatherhood, connection, love, the creative process, and hot dogs with “melish!”
A book is more than a story. It is a world in itself…

Have you ever seen two squirrels fight over a nut romantically? They first tangle, then tango! Those would be Scrat and his female nemesis Scratte (rhymes with sauté), the “flavor” of the story. If you think they are funny, wait till you see the eclectic group consisting of Manny and Ellie, a couple of expecting mammoths; Diego, an indifferent saber-toothed tiger, and Sid, a simple-minded ground sloth, who always feels left out.
This movie is about courage, determination, friendship, and loyalty. My favorite character is Buck, super-cool, free-spirited, and adventurous, the “Indiana Jones” of the animal world!
I think “Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” is the best yet of the three “Ice Age” installments. It is more epic, overflowing with humor, and you get to meet such fascinating new character like Buck, the “Indiana Jones” of the animal world!
A true and loyal friend is always ready to sacrifice his life for you.
